The 5 Laws of Information

S.R. Ranganathan came up with the 5 Laws of Library Science in 1931. I believe they still apply today, but need to be updated to fit the technology and language of the times.

His laws in 1931:

To me, libraries are about information, not books. This is especially true of special libraries or information centers in companies: they rely on huge collections of information, but do not have any books.

My updated list:

  1. Information is for use.
  2. Every user their piece of information.
  3. Every piece of information its user.
  4. Save the time of the user.
  5. The community and context around the information is a growing organism.

Could still use some word smithing, but the general idea is there.
